Summary:
Aerial lineman are responsible for completing assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner by specified deadlines while safely operating appropriate equipment to achieve results as dictated by the scope of work and customer expectations while maintaining a high quality of work.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Installation of aerial cable and fiber to customer specifications including splicing and activation
• Complete various maintenance and new construction tasks such as risers, downguy, overhead guy, strand and hardware, anchor installation, pole transfers, tree trimming, wreck out, vertical bonds, snowshoe installation,
• Complete as built maps to customer specifications
• Some underground hand digging, setting pedestals and pulling cable
will be required
• Work with, train and delegate duties to ground hand
• Operate and daily inspection of aerial bucket trucks and ladder
• Attend safety meetings and follow safety rules while working
• Follow all rules and procedures in company handbook
• Perform night splicing and activation when needed
• Flexibility to work on-call rotation or emergency situations when
needed
Education and/or Experience:
• 1-2 years of experience in cable TV field operations including cable/fiber construction practices and technical knowledge for activation and repair of plant preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• Must pass DOT health physical for driving bucket truck
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with ability to create positive representation to customers and co-workers
• Standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time with frequent bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and reaching
• Heavy work with maximum lifting of 100 pounds and frequent lifting of 45 pound lasher from side to side , above head while in bucket, on ladder or gaffs
• Flexibility to work beyond 40 hours per week and weekends and work on-call rotation
• Ability to operate bucket truck up to 40ft working height
• Ability to climb poles and climb 32 ft ladder
Working Conditions:
• Majority outside work, includes inclement weather with a wide range of temperatures and element including dry, windy and wet conditions
• Exposure to traffic, vibration, moving and mechanical parts, overhead
hazards, electricity and exposed energized components and confined
spaces
• Walking on normal to uneven ground possible
• Some travel may be required
