Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety Manager is responsible for managing the safety and environmental programs governed by OSHA and the EPA.
Essential Functions of the job (listed in order of importance):
• Develop written programs (respirator, confined space, LOTO programs)
• Develop and provide periodic required and recommended training
• Perform self-audits / inspections
• Perform waste determinations
• Manage Hazardous Wastes
• Oversee the installation of safety devices for machines
• Record-keeping (OSHA 300 Log, training rosters, CPR Certifications, etc.
)
• Reporting (Tier II, Annual Hazardous Waste Report, TRI Form R, etc.
)
• Conduct New Hire Safety Orientation
• Support all manufacturing and shipping operations in day-to-day requirements
• Proficient in all TOSHA standards and laws
Marginal Job Functions:
• Perform analytical testing on waste streams
• Obtain environmental permits (air, storm water, etc.
)
• Incident investigations
• Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
• Lead the Safety Steering Committee (SSC)
• Estimate costs of projects
• Manage a budget (CapEx Projects)
• Assist sister companies within the corporation
• Assist agencies with audits (TDEC, TOSHA, Insurance, etc.
)
• Manage projects / contractors related to safety / environmental
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience Required to Perform the Duties of the Job:
• Strong written, verbal, managerial, interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Well organized and disciplined regarding policy, procedures and standards
• Must understand and have the ability to learn OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926
• Ability to identify problems and create solutions
• Strong mathematic ability and understanding
• Minimum 5 years safety / environmental experience
• Computer literate and easily trainable for software programs
Non-Essential Skills and Experience (not required, but would be a plus)
• Blueprint reading
• First aid, CPR and AED certified
• HAZWOPER certified
• RCRA / DOT certified
Educational Requirements Needed to Perform the Duties of the Job:
• High school diploma - required
• 2-year college degree - minimum
• 4-year college degree - preferred
Other Qualifications Needed to Perform the Duties of the Job
• Complete OHSA 30-hour training
• Personal drive to succeed and excel at any task
• Team player, but have a strong will
• Not be easily offended
