Field Service Technician (Drop Bury)

Summary:
Point Broadband is seeking a technician to join our field services team.

Drop Bury technicians are responsible for placing fiber drops underground and re-splicing them as needed.
This position performs trenching and laborer-related duties including drops, hand digging, plowing, and trenching, including locating utilities.
Field service technicians are responsible for customer equipment installation and service work.
Technicians also maintain our inventory of network assets.
Computer networking skills are a plus but we will train the right person.
Applicants must have a clean driving record and be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
We are looking for someone friendly, reliable, self-motivated, and can direct their own work at customer locations.
Applicants should be able to climb ladders, be able to work with power tools and be able to lift weights over 50 lbs.
Duties and Responsibilities: Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below.
• Trenching new areas for drops, repairing, and replacing drops using hand trenching or machine trenching • Locating and marking underground utilities by thoroughly searching for the underground plant in an area • Call in utility locates or utilize the government agency website to submit locate requests • Prepping and fusion or mechanical splice SM and occasionally MM fiber optic cables, in both outdoor and indoor settings • Work flexible hours, and after-hours work which would include nights and weekends • Work outdoors in all weather conditions • Safely operate heavy-duty trucks and trailers • Safely operate machine trencher • Perform new connects, reconnects, disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, and change-of-service • Install and relocate outlets • Install or remove converters and cable modems • Install interior and exterior wiring • Connect peripheral equipment • Train customers on the proper use of equipment • Monitor, repair, and record system drop, and in-house leakage • Assure proper signal levels and picture quality • Identify the causes of the picture and/or signal degradation • Troubleshoot from consumer device to tap • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace components from tap to consumer device • Assure system security by terminating unused ports and tag drops and locking pedestals • Take voltage measurements • Understand/apply FCC and NESC technical standards • Identify and report all incidents of noncompliance (FCC, NESC, OSHA, and company standards) • Provide superior customer service • Complete all tasks to company quality standards • Maintain professional appearance and behavior at all times • Maintain excellent attendance • Responsible for motor vehicle per company policy including equipment & tool inventory, vehicle security, and vehicle maintenance • Replaces defective/damaged tap plates and installs new taps • Troubleshoots/repairs problems between customer equipment and the RF of the optical node • Performs network troubleshooting including ping test, trace routes, and speed test • Installs power supply and performs field engineering walkouts • Other duties as assigned - which may include training other employees Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
